About Timgu

Timgu Ltd. — History in the making.

Our history

"Let's go back to the very beginning, a very good place to start…" Or not, do you know what Mary Poppins? We are doing this in reverse instead!

It's 2026 now, & Timgu has been around for 15+ years. We have been optimizing campaigns across the globe for some of the biggest names out there, and it's because we are constantly evolving our technology stack and our approach to align with the market and our customers. If you find something fun or exciting, we want to know about it!

This is the third iteration of what we consider Timgu. Like many other businesses, we have had to evolve & change how we approach things, both as technology changed, but also as the staffing & needs of the business changed. This iteration, following our slogan — Launch, Learn & Improve — is what we are calling the "Creation Era". Why do we call it that? Simple. We are in a position, after many many years, where we can go & create things from nothing. With AI all around us and technology moving at breakneck speed, we try to stay ahead and give you smarter and better tools to do your jobs!

The team is led by one of the original founders, Alexander Kahn (Chief Squirrel), Hristo Dimitrov (The Technology Squirrel), Aditi Tyagi (Processes & Localization Squirrel), plus the rest of our cutting edge team and partners — as we know, we can't do everything in isolation.

Timgu was founded on the 14th of September 2010 by Alexander Kahn from Denmark & Outi Ellilä & Lari Numminen from Finland. Prior to this the three founders had been co-workers at Google Ireland, where they had learned all the necessary basics within the field of online advertising.

What does Timgu actually mean?

We hear that a lot. Well — the name Timgu doesn't mean anything in any major language, nor is it particularly useful for search engine optimization. When brainstorming names related to international marketing, internet marketing, search engines & so forth, the working title The International Marketing Group came up, which was later distilled down to its essence: Timgu.

After moving into the temporary global headquarters in Edgware, North London, United Kingdom, the Timgu team was welcomed by a friendly neighbour: a squirrel that we affectionately named Tim Guu. The squirrel has been the mascot of Timgu ever since. He actually has more followers, even without posting in a long time, than the founders and all the staff — he is just that nuts.

The Tim Guu squirrel comic: squirrels run out of nuts, apply for a Google Grant, and Team Timgu arrives with acorns.
